Welcome to the Uptown Macon Rotary Club! We meet every Thursday for fellowship, food and fun at Idle Hour Country Club in North Macon. We warmly welcome all guests so please come visit, whether you are a Rotarian from another club, a prospective future member, or an interested listener on the week’s featured topic. Our guest speakers each week cover a wide variety of topics including politics, economics, sports, education, non-profit activities, architecture, foundations, and many others in the pursuit of sharing information and insights about our community.
Like all Rotary clubs, Uptown Macon Rotary is guided by the 4-way test:
• Is it the TRUTH?
• Is it FAIR to all concerned?
• Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
• Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
We firmly believe that if we live by these precepts in our daily lives, and join our energies, skills and resources together, we can be a significant positive force on those around us.
Uptown Rotary raised over $9,600 during the Uptown Rotary Ocmulgee Adventure Race (U-ROAR!) on July 25th, 2009 at Javors Lucas Lake at the Amerson Water Treatment plant. Proceeds from the fundraiser went to the Macon Rescue Mission, the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail and to Uptown Rotary’s financial literacy efforts. We are committed to helping the disadvantaged in our community, to preserving and protecting our local environment, and to helping to educate our future community leaders.
To this end, Uptown Rotary has recently formed a partnership with local high schools, businesses and the Macon Office of Workforce Development to instill financial management skills in our at-risk youth. Through our members’ connections in the community and by bringing resources together, we can magnify the positive impact of private-sector, public-sector and philanthropic institutions. This is the Rotary philosophy and we proudly work to improve ourselves as we improve our surroundings.
We are also enthusiastic supporters of the Good Books program targeting grade school literacy efforts. We have recently secured thousands of dollars of re-usable medical equipment for transport to developing countries through the Medical Equipment Transport Service program administered by one of our sister Rotary club in Savannah, GA. We partner with the Downtown Rotary Club of Macon to donate Thanksgiving meals to needy families in Bibb County. These are just a few of the many examples of Uptown Rotarians giving back to the community!
